As many times as [HIV] changes its clothes, it’s still wearing the same socks, and now our job is to make sure we get the body to really hate those socks.

If you are anxious about a business deal or worried about your job, you are seeing failure as a possibility. And having seen and felt the end, you have willed the means of realization of the end. It is a shocking truth we should never forget.

For me it’s a new experience every single time, because – The dance community has a great strength in synergizing immediately. So we recognize that opposed to being competition, which we are in the audition process, once we’re on the job is about cohesion, it’s about striving to highlight each individual in their own element, while also creating something that is visually tantalizing to the audience. While the ingredients of each movie has been different, the recipe for success is the same, which is to click immediately and make the best possible movie.

World War II put feminism on hold for a long time; the men went away to fight, a lot of women in those years got jobs both in teaching and in factories – at all social levels – which they enjoyed very much. A lot of them were quite happy during the war.

Of course, for me Naked Lunch was the big one, but I still believe I was right to pass on that. James Grauerholz and Barry Miles did an important job with their 2003 "Restored" edition because they knew what they wanted to do, and what they could do. At the time, I simply didn’t know. I hadn’t even edited Junky back then. So I did the right thing to pass. Instead, what I most want to do now is complete "The Making of Naked Lunch," on which I have been working, on and off, these past 25 years.

I have always believed that the more educated the clients are, the easier they are to work with. Clients with a knowledge of decorating, and an ability to articulate what they want from the finished project, make the designer’s job easier.

A decorator, no matter how talented, can’t always get the desired results because sometimes there is resistance or maybe a lack of understanding on the part of the client. I think it is the decorator’s job to work as a guide, to bring out the best qualities and the best attitudes.

Having kids is a full-time job. And I don’t know any woman who isn’t constantly fighting between the exquisite selfishness required to be an artist and this exquisite selflessness that’s required to be a parent.

I’ve had to be a man since I was 12 or 13. I had a job. And I was playing the piano for people twice my age. Handling responsibility is what makes a man a man.

Your job description as a journalist is to question and scrutinize critically-neve r to repeat claims uncritically, no matter how highly placed the sources in the bureaucracy. Don’t ever forget that. You’re a damn good writer, but that talent is completely worthless if you forget your job description.

Being a homicide detective ca be the loneliest job in the world. The friends of the victim are upset and in despair, but sooner or later – after weeks or months – they go back to their everyday lives. For the closest family it takes longer, but for the most part, to some degree, they too get over the grieving and despair. Life has to go on; it does go on. But the unsolved murders keep gnawing away and in the end there’s only one person left who thinks night and day about the victim: it’s the office who is left with the investigation.

Football used to be my god but no longer is. I still love it, I’m still aggressive, I still want to be very successful at it, I want to win a lot of football games. And my job is to be the best football player in the world, because it affords me a life; it pays, it’s my job, and so it hasn’t dulled my senses for the game or the love or the great excitement I get from the game. It’s just that I’m very much at peace with myself because of my faith.

Americans have long felt that NATO isn’t doing its job and that the Europeans aren’t contributing enough. Trump has accelerated the decline in Atlantic solidarity by offering open contempt for NATO allies as well. The future of NATO now very much depends on Europeans. Can you begin to identify security threats, prepare yourselves and arm yourselves without the US?

Though the poorest Americans voted for Hillary Clinton, many relatively wealthy people voted for Trump and generally it’s a mistake to think that economics explains Trump. The US is doing relatively well, the economy has significantly recovered since 2008, unemployment rates are low. I would say rather that his appeal to the working class was cultural: "I’ll bring back the kinds of jobs your fathers had," and, by implication, the whiter, simpler post-war world when America had no real economic competition.

When people don’t express themselves, they die one piece at a time. You’d be shocked at how many adults are really dead inside—walking through their days with no idea who they are, just waiting for a heart attack or cancer or a Mack truck to come along and finish the job. It’s the saddest thing I know.

I believe that you’ve created a metaphorical universe in which you can express your darkest fears. In one aspect, yes, I believe in ghosts, but we create them. We haunt ourselves, and sometimes we do such a good job, we lose track of reality.

Having to parent your mother or father is a challenge that way too many teens have to deal with. Teens whose parents are dealing with substance abuse, financial hardship, job loss, mental illness and divorce deserve our love, support, and compassion. I wish America would stop judging and criticizing teens and instead, try to understand the battles they have to fight every day.

John Shook’s experience shows just how important problemsolving is at Toyota – it comes before any other job skill for the graduate intake. When I joined Toyota in Toyota City (where for a time I was the only American) in late 1983, every newly hired college graduate employee began learning his job by being coached […]

I’ve had tons of odd jobs, but I think that I would probably be a fireman because you get to see the results of your job. You get there and there is a house on fire. You leave and there’s not a fire anymore.

Many people with jobs have a fantasy about all the amazing things they would do if they didn’t need to work. In reality, if they had the drive and commitment to do actually do those things, they wouldn’t let a job get in the way.
